EU-OSHA Issue New Guidance On Balancing Work And Home Life

Over the last decades both, men and women, have experienced an increase in demands from free time, working life and household demands. Work-life balance has become an often used term with regard to these changes. Finding the right balance concerning time, satisfaction and psychological involvement constitutes a great challenge. The following e-fact gives an overview on the topic, by describing the situation in Europe and giving practical advice to both, employees and employers.

Now the European Union Occupational Safety and Health organisation has published a new guide to helping to get the work and home life balance problems sorted out.

Aimed at both workers and their employers, the document is available to download from Unionsafety's E-Library.

The 8 page guide is simply and straightforward and contains numerous references to the research papers issued on the subject of work-life balance. In it's background note to the issues involved, it says:

"Over the past few decades, a dramatic change has occurred in the labour market and demographic profiles of employees. Families have shifted from the traditional male ‘breadwinner’ role to dual-earner couples and single parent families. Relative to the working environment, organisations are demanding an increase in employee flexibility and productivity. The traditional “job for life” has changed into an economic environment of instability and job uncertainty"

You can download the document in PDF format from the E-library database by selecting the category 'Working Time Issues'.
